Aunty Kester bought me to the temple where she always helped out, to ask for a good time to leave home.
To show my grandmother and mum the respect, I went to the temple with my aunty last night immediately after I returned from flight. It was located in a HDB flat and on every Thursday, they are open for all publics to ask "Tua Ya Pei" for blessings for themselves or others. Queue numbers are required. The session begins at 9pm and the tiny flat gets more crowded when the night gets later. These people came from all backgrounds, ages and problems.
Shi fu's wife ever mentioned to my aunt that let modern young people to choose a date they like as nowadays these young couples have their own mindset, most importantly they are happy on their wedding day. Even for her own son, they did not choose a date too.
Finally, it came my turn. Aunty Kester lead the way and did the asking for me. I was asked to kneel down. He spoke in Hokkien. I couldn't really catch what he said but somehow it went like this.
1. When we asked for a good timing for the bride to leave home.
- He said any time is fine. He knows. He watches. Just do not allow a Tiger to open the car door.
2. My grandmother wanted us to ask for a good time for Guo Da Li.
- Guo Da Li can be any time. He knows. He watches.
3. Lastly, we told him from the website's information, the wedding day crashes with my Father-in-law.
- He got angry and scolded my aunty.
- He said he knows. He watched. All this internet thingy is unreal.
Unlike the fortune tellers, he gives blessing and protection in whatever we do. That's how I thought it should be. Also, that's the kind of support I wanted. And! That is how I am more comfortable than all old wives myths.
Thank you Mr Tua Ya Pei. Thank you for watching for us. I love you!!. =)
